PHILLIPS ACQUIRES COMBS GROUP
Phillips Machine Service, Inc. proudly announces the acquisition of the Combs Group, Inc. doing business as CBJ Machine and Hydraulics effective February 23, 2011. The Combs Group, formerly owned and operated by John and Susan Combs, specializes in rebuilding underground mining machinery, associated part sales, machining, fabrication, hydraulics and chrome plating.

Phillips will retain the Combs Group as an operating subsidiary with its current offices and shops in Middlesboro, KY and Harrogate, TN. John Combs will remain as president of Combs and will continue to serve the coal industry in Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Western Virginia and Alabama.

Jack Phillips, president of Phillips, said that he is “excited to combine the experienced workforce of Combs with that of Phillips to better serve our coal industry.” Jimmy Phillips, Executive VP, states that adding the hydraulic and chrome plating business gives Phillips the opportunity to broaden products and services to customers. Tom Cushman, VP of Phillips, states that many synergies exist between the companies and the location of the Combs Group combined with Phillips’ Colorado and West Virginia locations offer increased availability to coal operations ranging from the Rocky Mountain slopes to the Appalachian Mountain and Alabama regions.
Bruce Dickerson, CEO, is excited to add John Combs to the management team of Phillips. He said, “John has over 25 years experience in equipment remanufacturing and sales and this acquisition will certainly provide increased prospects in combining our resources.” Phillips welcomes the 58 employees of the Combs Group to Phillips.
